Welcome to Reading Shotokan Karate Club

Welcome to the Reading Shotokan Karate Club website.

The club is a member of the Japan Karate Association England, the UK representative of the Japan Karate Association.

We are a traditional Shotokan club which means that we don't train for sport karate preferring to practice basic techniques (punching, kicking, blocking) and katas to make our fundamental karate techniques better. We also apply these to the modern world practising self defense moves derived from the basic techniques. This helps us understand why we are practising certain moves and so become more effective in our understanding of Karate.

New students from beginner to black belt are welcome. Because of the current pandemic we ask that you contact the club in advance of arrival. Beginners can wear suitable loose clothing for the first few lessons.
